The History of Slumberland

The history of Slumberland beds and mattresses begins almost a century ago when a wartime pilot returned from the Great War and used his gratuity to set up a factory in Birmingham producing pillows, mattresses and other bed related goods.

In the 1930's, the famous Slumberland logo appeared on a range of beds produced by the company which proved so popular that the name remained as the brand. After the second World War, the company registered as a limited company under the same name.

In 1964, Slumberland raised the bar with the invention of the Posture Springing® technology which later developed into the Pocketed Posture Springs with which each spring is contained within its own pocket for the greatest amount of comfort.

Since that time, Slumberland has made several leaps forward in technological advances being one of the most innovative in the mattress and bedding industry. They were the first to add drawers to divan bases and later – the first to introduce the anti-dust mite bed, as well as developing the first no-turn mattress.
