PricesPrice increases, price increases and price increases, currently there seems to be no end to price increases. Although many of the bed frames are made in China and Far East, like models from Flintshire, Sweet Dreams, Birlea, Avant Garde, Limelight etc. are not going up in price, the cost of getting a container has gone up 300%. So were a container was £3000 it is now £9000+ and that increase is putting a 10-15% surcharge on all items coming in from China and the Far East. The trouble is that this is not the only price increase. The price of foam, whether it be Gel foam in Sealy and Sleepeezee products or memory foam in products made by Relyon, Siesta, Highgrove and Sleepeezee or Viscool foam in Salus or Medical grade foam in Mammoth or Sonlevo are all going up. In some cases there has been 3 price increases in foam since October and another one is looming at the start of June 2021.
These price increases also effect steel for springs, British steel have stopped taking orders for steel for springs until October this year. So with a shortage of springs this will drive the prices up, also currently we are seeing a major shortage of wood/timber so divan bases, headboards and British made bed frames that rely on Scandinavian timber are really in short supply. When things in short supply manufacturers have to pay more for items or search for alternative markets which ultimately leads to more price increases. If ever there was a time to purchase it is now, as the bed and mattress market relies on so many raw materials all of which are in short supply.
